Rayagada: A court in Odisha’s Rayagada district Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his younger brother in 2022.
Rayagada District and Sessions Judge Damodar Rath convicted accused Dambu Huika in the murder case and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him, said a government counsel.
If the fine is not paid, Huika will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment, the court ruled.
According to government pleader Bikram Kumar Kund, the case dates back to 2022 when Huika allegedly killed his younger brother, Mindhuru Huika.
“A significant aspect of the case was that the mother had lodged the FIR against her own elder son in connection with the killing of her younger son. She also supported the prosecution during the trial and deposed before the court,” said Kund.
Considering the circumstances of the elderly mother, who lost one son while her other son was convicted in the case, the court directed the state government to provide her compensation of Rs 2 lakh, he added.
