Cuttack: Special POCSO Court in Cuttack city Saturday afternoon sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his minor daughter and impregnating her.
The special court convicted Suryamani Behera from Dagarpada area in Cuttack and imposed Rs 20,000 fine on him apart from the lifer term for raping his 15-year-old daughter several times, a press communique issued by the Commissionerate Police stated.

According to a source, mother of the rape survivor had earlier lodged an FIR at Mahila Police Station in the city in this connection. Police had then registered a case December 25, 2018 under Section 376 (2) and POCSO Act (GR No.-171/2018), the press release read.
Acting on the FIR, investigating officer of the case IIC Anusaya Nayak had arrested Behera. Later, minor daughter of the convict gave birth to a baby girl.
Notably, police had submitted its charge-sheet in this case March 11, 2019.
