Nabarangpur: Umerkote police Sunday arrested a youth on the charge of impregnating a 12-year-old girl.
He was identified as Sanjay Kachima of Chitabeda under Umerkote police limits. According to police, the minor had gone to a relative’s house for a marriage function five months back. Meanwhile, Sanjay lured the girl and raped her twice during the function after which she returned home.
However, the girl slowly started experiencing vomiting and showed symptoms of pregnancy. Growing suspicious, family members took her for a check-up at the district headquarters hospital where doctors confirmed she was 20 weeks pregnant.
Later, the medical authorities alerted the district police about the incident. Nabarangpur IIC informed Umerkote police to launch a probe. Based on the complaint, police arrested Sanjay and launched a further probe.
The victim will be produced before the district child protection committee, Umerkote IIC Birendra Senapati said.
