Jagatsinghpur: Police Saturday arrested a youth on charges of raping a minor girl in Tirtol area here in the district. The accused has been identified as Litua, a distant relative of the victim.
According to reports, the minor girl stayed with her grandmother in the absence of her parents. Litua allegedly strayed into the house and committed the heinous crime when the girl was sleeping alone Friday night.
He later fled the spot after the girl shouted and cried in pain. Hearing the screams, neighbours rescued the girl and admitted her to the community health centre (CHC) in Manijanga in critical condition.
After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after her condition deteriorated in the Saturday morning.
Acting on a complaint by the victim’s family, the Tirtol police swung into action and arrested the accused in Manijanga while he was trying to flee.
