Bargarh/Atabira/Saranda, March 2: A dacoity rocked Atabira police station area with armed miscreants killing a villager and injuring his son before fleeing with Rs 64,000 and 150 gm gold ornaments from a house at Patrapalli in Bargarh district late Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Durllabh Seth. A resident of the village, Seth sustained bullet injuries when he tried to nab the dacoits who had looted the house of Lal Bisi. Durllabh’s son Rajendra (30) sustained injuries on his palms as the miscreants attacked them with sharp-edged weapons.
One of the accused, Rajiv Bag (24), who was injured when people of the village under Atabira police station attacked him, has been admitted to Sadar hospital.Police registered a case over a complaint lodged by one of Lal Bisi’s sons, Narayan, and seized two country-made pistols, two bullets, a bike, knives and a cell phone from the accused.
Police are interrogating Rajiv and trying to get clues to nab the other accused. Bargarh SP Umashankar Das, additional SP Satyanarayan Panda and SDPO Nrupacharan Dansana reached the spot along with Atabira police and started an investigation.
About half an hour past midnight Sunday, Lal Bisi’s daughter-in-law Chhuanuni saw a person peeping into the house through the main gate when the family was asleep, according to the complaint lodged with the police. Chhuanuni told her husband Babru who went to the main gate to check if everything is alright. However, the dacoits, armed with knives and pistols, had by then entered the house.
Chhuanuni screamed on seeing the miscreants, drawing the other family members out of their rooms. The dacoits fired blanks to terrorise the family members and confined them in a room. However, Babru escaped through the roof and informed villagers.
The dacoits were fleeing from Lal Bisi’s residence with `64,000 and 150 gm gold ornaments when they encountered a group of villagers in front of the house. In their bid to escape, the dacoits fired at villagers, injuring Durllabh. They also attacked the villagers with knives, injuring Rajendra, before fleeing on a bike.
However, the villagers nabbed Rajiv and beat him up. Durllabh was rushed to VSS Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
