Kuchinda: A 58-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his son-in-law following a domestic dispute at Mahulchapal village under the Gobindpur police station in Sambalpur district Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Kalo Kachhap of Pindapathar village, while the accused, his son-in-law Anthony Kisan, 35, is a resident of Mahulchhapal (Lalpada) village.
According to police, Kisan had married Kalo’s daughter Amita, who lived with him at Mahulchhapal, about 2km from her parental home.
A quarrel broke out between the couple Tuesday evening, following which Amita went to her father’s house. On learning about the dispute, Kalo went to Mahulchhapal to try to resolve the matter.
An argument reportedly broke out between Kalo and Kisan. In a fit of rage, Kisan allegedly attacked Kalo with a sharp machete, killing him on the spot.
Amita returned to her husband’s house Wednesday morning and found her father’s body lying on the verandah.
She alerted the police, following which a team led by Gobindpur Inspector-in-Charge Padmalaya Sahu reached the spot and recovered the body.
A scientific team examined the crime scene before the body was sent to Bamra Medical for postmortem.
Police registered a case under Section 103(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), vide case No. 128/26, and arrested Kisan.
