Pipli: A family feud took a tragic turn when a 30-year-old man allegedly killed his wife after slitting her throat on Bajpayee-Dandamukandapur road here Wednesday. The victim, Ranjana Nayak ,27, was a resident of Kothabada Mahalimbapada here. Pipli police registered a case (188/18) and began probe.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when Ranjana with her mother and eight-month-old daughter was on her way to Dandamukandapur market for Raja shopping.
Sources said Rushan Nayak, the victim’s husband, intercepted the trio at a deserted stretch on Bajpayee-Dandamukandapur road and slit Ranjana’s throat. The husband, however, fled the scene when the eyewitnesses raised an alarm.
“Rushan, a resident of Bhimpur in Jatni police limits, is on the run. Efforts are on to track him down soon,” Pipli police said, adding the body would be handed over to the family members after an autopsy.
Meanwhile, locals rushed to Ranjana’s rescue. “We rushed the profusely bleeding woman to Pipli health centre. However, she was pronounced dead on arrival,” another source said.
Family sources said Ranjana had married Rushan around eight years ago. Things were rosy until a few months ago when the duo frequently picked up quarrels.
“Ranjana was with her parents for the past couple of months. Even we had approached the local police during that period. However, things were resolved amicably and the duo was supposed to begin a new lease of life,” said one of Ranjana’s family members. He added that they (Ranjana’s family) could not ascertain why Rushan chose to kill Ranjana as things were back on track again.
