Oupada: A man in Balasore district allegedly battered his wife to death after brutally assaulting her in front of their 3-year-old daughter, following a domestic dispute, Friday night.
The incident took place at Harijan Sahi of Pratappur village under Oupada police limits.
The victim was identified as Bishama Mana, the wife of the accused Nishakar Mana.
According to police, Nishakar had married Bishama, daughter of Kunu Bag of Purnachandrapur in Mayurbhanj district, five years ago.
The couple had a 3-year-old daughter. Nishakar reportedly assaulted his wife Friday night over an unknown reason.
He allegedly picked her out of the house, brutally thrashed her and later battered her on the ground.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued her. She was taken in an unconscious state to Khaira hospital by Nishakar and a relative.
As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital. However, she died on the way in an ambulance.
Her family members lodged a complaint at the Oupada police station late at night, accusing Nishakar of murder.
Police registered a case (158/25) and arrested him. The body was seized in the presence of Magistrate Prangya Paramita and sent for a post-mortem.
A scientific team visited the spot for further investigation. Nishakar was produced in court Saturday, police added.
