Angul, Oct 10: In a gruesome incident, a man killed his wife using a spade suspecting her fidelity even after several years of marriage late Thursday night.
The incident took place in Gudidhipa Sahi of Khalari village under Agul police station. Police seized the body of Pramila Nath and arrested Dilip Nath in this connection.
According to neighbours, Dilip often used to abuse Pramila, both physically and verbally, suspecting her fidelity. The matter came to such a pass that Pramila Wednesday lodged a complaint with the local police against her husband after failing to endure the torture any longer. Following this, the police came to their house and asked Dilip to mend his ways.
The duo had an argument over the interference of police in the conjugal matter Thursday night. Infuriated, Dilip suddenly bolted the door from inside and tied a towel tightly around Pramila’s neck. Dilip then hit her face repeatedly with a spade while she was gasping for breath. Pramila died on the spot after receiving severe injuries to her face. The accused then fled the scene.
Dilip’s mother and daughter, who were asleep in the other room, rushed to the spot, but by then Pramila was dead. Friday morning, Dilip’s mother lodged a complaint against him at the police station. The police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Dilip was later arrested near the collectorate, inspector in-charge Subas Sahoo said.
It was learnt that Dilip used to fight with his relatives and neighbours over trivial issues and snatch money from them. He didn’t return Rs 40,000 which he had borrowed from a women self-help group in the village.
He even tried to attack the SHG members when they asked him to clear the dues. Following this, the women tied him to a tree and lodged a case with police. The police had arrested him in the matter and produced him in a court. However, Dilip managed to get bail and resumed fight with the group. PNN
