Parajang: Police Tuesday arrested two persons on the charge of beating a married man to death over an extramarital relationship at Rahabereni village under Parajang police limits in Dhenkanal district.
The deceased was identified as Bibhuti Naik of Tarhata village under Chandpur panchayat while the accused were identified as Bibhuti’s brother-in-law Prasant Kumar Naik and relative Sanjay Naik.
Police registered a case of murder over a complaint by Bibhuti’s father and arrested Prasant who confessed to have committed the crime during police interrogation. The duo later took police to the spot of the murder from where police seized a lathi and blood-stained clothes of Bibhuti.
Prasant told police that his sister was married to Bibhuti for the last 12 years. However, family members learnt that Bibuti was in an extramarital relationship with another girl. Later, Bibhuti against everyone’s consent married the girl.
From then on, he began torturing Prasant’s sister and forced her to leave his house. He beat her up mercilessly and even allegedly tried to kill her, Prasant said. Failing to bear his sister’s plight, Prasant hatched a plan to murder Bibhuti and convinced Sanjay to join him.
As per plan, the duo called Bibhuti to their house and made him drink alcohol. Later, they beat him to death after he was fully drunk and subsequently dumped his body in a forest. PNN
