Puri, March 8: Residents of Naruda and Barimunda villages tonsured a man’s head and paraded him in the locality for allegedly attempting to disrupt the marriage of a girl with who he had an affair.
The man of Kamakantia village was in love with a girl of Naruda village for last two years, according to sources. However, the girl’s family was against the relationship and later arranged to get her married to a person of Barimunda village March 10.
On hearing of the impending marriage, the man rushed to Barimunda where he told the girl’s in-laws that he had an illicit relationship with her.
The girl’s in-laws detained the man and later took him to Naruda, where they beat him black and blue Saturday night and tonsured his head Sunday. They then paraded him in the village.
Balanga police brought the man to the police station and detained three of the girl’s family members.
Inspector in-charge Jivanananda Jena said the members of the girl’s family violated human rights by tonsuring the man’s head. However, as the two parties decided to resolve the issue among themselves, police have not registered any case, he said.
