Man returning from engagement ceremony dies in mishap

Daringbadi: A man returning from his engagement ceremony was killed while 14 others including women and children suffered grievous injuries as the overloaded van they were returning in rammed into a tree Sunday night.

The deceased man was identified as Manoj Bisoyi.
The injured were identified as Rekha Bisoyi, Bandana Bisoyi, Ishan Bisoyi, Pramila Bisoyi, Iswari Bisoyi, Pramod Kumar Bisoyi, Dilip Sahu, Simanchal Sahu, Ashok Kumar Behera and Bhibisan Bisoyi. The incident spread shockwaves in the area.

According to sources, Manoj’s relatives had booked three Mahindra Boleros to go to Siangbali near Daringbadi to attend his engagement ceremony. The group was returning home when the last vehicle carrying Manoj rammed into a tree at a high speed as the driver lost control. The vehicle was badly mangled due to the impact of the crash while the passengers were flung out of the vehicle.

A five-year-old girl who was in the vehicle miraculously escaped without any major injuries. The girl took a mobile phone and called her relatives who were in the other two vehicles and informed them of the incident. The relatives then turned their vehicles back and rushed to the spot and took the injured persons to Daringbadi community health centre.

Three critically injured persons including Manoj were shifted to Berhampur’s MKCG Medical College and Hospital in a 108 ambulance. Unfortunately, the ambulance developed a snag just 3 km from the CHC. Another ambulance was called to ferry the injured. However, Manoj succumbed to his injuries midway.
Daringbadi police reached the spot and seized the vehicle. PNN
