Bargaon (Sundargarh): A 45-year-old man has been battling for life after he was shot at by two unidentified miscreants from close quarters near Mahavir square here Sunday evening.
The injured has been identified as Niran Dansena. He sustained bullet injuries. Hearing the pistol shot, passers-by reached the spot after which the miscreants sped away in a two-wheeler.
An 108 ambulance was called in and Dansena was rushed to Sundargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH).
On information, a police team reached the hospital and launched a probe. Meanwhile, Rajgangpur SDPO also visited the spot and recovered cartridges from the site.
According to sources, Dansena was sitting outside his house due to power outage Sunday evening when the two miscreants, believed to be his acquaintances came to him. The three then went to a corridor and had a conversation.
For some reason, the two picked up an altercation with Dansena. Irate, one of the miscreants, shot at Dansena with a pistol, said the villagers.
Inquiries revealed that Dansena was in a jail for two months in connection with some chit fund fraud. Locals suspected the two were also lodged in the jail and had known Dansena. Although the exact reason of the enmity is unknown, locals suspected it was a rift over financial matters.
Dansena might have failed to pay their dues after which the miscreants might have attacked him, said the sources.
“The exact reason will be known after Dansena’s health improves. A manhunt has been launched and the two accused will be arrested soon,” the SDPO said.
