Keonjhar: In a ghastly incident, a man allegedly killed his sister-in-law by slitting her throat and then sexually assaulted his mother-in-law in a forest under Bolani police limits of Keonjhar district.
The incident took place Sunday. However, the police recovered the body from a stone quarry in the area Monday. Subsequently, they sent it for postmortem. Registering a case, they have launched a probe and a manhunt for Rup Singh Siddhu- the accused who has been absconding.
According to a source, Rup Singh Siddhu had a long-standing dispute with his in-laws — residents of Murgapada area under Bolani police limits. Like any other day, Siddhu’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law had gone to nearby Karo Reserve Forest to collect firewood and other forest produces. The forest is close to neighbouring Jharkhand state. Meanwhile, Siddhu, while searching for them since morning, reached the forest. Upon finding them, he picked up a quarrel with them. The situation turned ugly when Siddhu lost his cool and slit his sister-in-law’s throat with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot. He then dumped the body in an iron quarry pit.
After committing the crime, Siddhu did not stop there. He vented his anger on his mother-in-law as well. He tied her to a tree and sexually assaulted her. However, she managed to get herself freed and ran away from the spot to save her life. Later, she found herself in Jharkhand. She went to Kiribur police post there and narrated everything that happened to her daughter and her.
After hearing her out, the police officials contacted their counterparts at Bolani police station and passed the information.
A team from Bolani police station brought the accused’s mother-in-law and went to the crime spot Monday. Subsequently, they recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.
Recording the statements of the woman and some of her neighbours, the police have registered a case in this regard and launched a manhunt for the accused.
