Rajkot: In a bizarre incident, a man staged his own kidnapping drama to test the love of his girlfriend. The matter came to the fore after the man identified as Mehul Joshi, 23, was arrested and booked under section 182 of the IPC for providing false information and misleading police.
“I wanted to check out, how much Isha loved me,” Mehul Joshi told police after his arrest near Bhuj in Kutch district Wednesday night.
“During his interrogation, Joshi said as he wanted to test love of Isha Pachhel (18) for him, he had staged his own kidnapping drama,” said A N Prajapati, inspector with Bhuj A division police station.
On Tuesday, Joshi left for his office and did a disappearing act. After this, he changed the SIM card of his cellphone and started giving threat calls to Pachhel by using voice changer application.
“Joshi told Pachhel in Hindi that her live-in partner was in his captivity and that if she wanted to see him alive, she would have to pay him Rs 3 lakh, which she would have to bring to Gandhidham,” said Prajapati.
When Pachhel approached the cops, they traced Joshi through his cellphone location to Gandhidham. The cops learnt that Joshi had checked in a guest house near Gandhidham bus stand. Upon investigating, they found that Joshi had checked out from the guest house.
“We then traced Joshi’s mobile location to Bhuj and found him on the bus stand road. We suspected Joshi’s intentions as we found that there was nobody with him in the Gandhidham guest house. During his questioning, Joshi broke down and confessed of having staged his own kidnapping drama,” added Prajapati.
