Maoist menace: Huge cache of explosives seized from Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Security forces seized a huge cache of explosives from Bhimaram Reserve Forest of Swabhiman Anchal in Malkangiri district in Odisha during a combing operation, a top police official said, Wednesday.

Based on an intelligence input about the movement of some armed Maoists in Bhimaram Reserve Forest area Tuesday, SOG and DVF teams of Odisha Police along with BSF and Andhra Pradesh Police had launched a combing operation.

During the combing operation, the Maoists opened fire at the security forces near Gunamamudi village. Following an exchange of fire, the ultras managed to flee from the spot.

The combing party then thoroughly searched the area and seized arms, ammunition in huge amount including ammunition IED, 11 7.62 mm SLR live rounds, four 7.62 mm AK rounds, one 5.56 mm INSAS round, one SLR magazine, 32 numbers of detonators, one camera flash, radio, 11 number of kit bags, three pairs of Maoist uniforms, Maoist literature, utensils, medicines, daily used articles and clothes.

Speaking about the operation, Malkangiri SP said, “It is a huge success for police. The combing operations will continue in the area in the coming days.”
