Maoist training camp destroyed

Bhubaneswar: Security forces have destroyed a Maoist training camp in Nuapada district, police said today.

The security forces launched a combing operation under Patdhara reserve forest area Monday after receiving a tip-off about the Maoist camp, they said.

“The teams Monday came across a camp of the CPI (Maoist) belonging to the Mainpur-Nuapada Division in the forest area near Kundan Jharia village in Nuapada district,” a senior official involved in anti-Maoist operation said.

Though the teams recovered several items from the Maoist camp, the naxalites fled into the deep forest, the official said.

The items recovered during the operation comprise a single shot rifle, nine detonators, three gelatin sticks, 100m of electric wire, 12 batteries (12 volt each), four arrows and Maoist literature, the police said.

The security forces also recovered a large number of personal use items and training materials from the spot, the official said, adding that it appeared that a training camp was being organised by the CPI (Maoist).
