Khurda: A married man killed his second wife and buried her body under a heap of stone dust discharged by a crusher at Tapanga under Sadar police limits in the wee hours of Friday.
A forensic team in the presence of district magistrate recovered the body Tuesday, five days after her death. The body has been handed over to the victim’s family after post-mortem while further investigations are under way, said police.
The matter came to light after the accused had revealed about the murder and the spot where he had dumped the body to one of his colleagues who informed the owner of the crushing unit.
The victim was identified as Sukumari Mallik (22) of Chandikhol. She fell in love with Akhaya Mallik (30) of Khairang Haripur under Badachana police limits in Jajpur, who works as a tipper driver in the crushing unit.
After marriage, the couple had been staying together for the last six months in a house in the crushing unit premises. But differences erupted when Sukumari found out that Akhaya was already married and had three children who were all staying in the village.
When the victim questioned him about his earlier marriage and children, a fierce argument broke out between them late Wednesday night. Following this, Sukumari had left the house.
But when she returned Friday, the couple had again an argument over his extramarital affair and marriage. Akhaya in a fit of rage killed her and hid her body under a pile of stone dust. After the cold-blooded murder, the accused returned to his normal life as if nothing had happened.
Based on a complaint, police registered a case (169/17) under various Sections of IPC and caught the accused from Jatni railway station when he was trying to flee. The accused will be presented in a local court Wednesday, it is learnt.
