Masked miscreants loot ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh from vendor in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Four bike-borne masked miscreants looted a local businessman of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 11,00,000 at a place between Bharasundi and Chhatabeda villages under Raighar police limits in Nabarangpur district Thursday night.

The victim, Asharam Gond, a resident of Mahubhata village under Parua panchayat, deals in gold and silver ornaments. He sells these ornaments at weekly markets in Raighar town and nearby villages including Beheda and Gona villages.

According to the report he lodged at the Raighar police station, he had gone to Gona weekly market Thursday. In the evening, he was returning to his house on his motor cycle. As usual, he was also carrying the ornament boxes with him.

At a deserted place between Bharasundi and Chhatabeda villages, he was waylaid by four bike-borne miscreants. All of them were brandishing knives. After a scuffle between them and Asharam, they snatched the jewellery box away from him and sped away from the spot.

An injured Asharam, somehow managed to reach Raighar police to lodge a report.

Raighar police have launched an investigation and a manhunt to nab the miscreants.
