Bhubaneswar, Dec 8: The state government, in its bid to meet dearth of doctors in the state, has proposed to set up medical colleges with the help of PSUs and private promoters.
Sources said, of the eight stakeholders who are likely to set up their colleges, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited are the two PSUs which will set up their medical colleges in Sundargarh and Talcher.
The Sahayog Health Care and Research Centre, Sibani Educational and Charitable Trust and Eastern India Construction Ltd will set up medical colleges in Keonjhar and Bhubaneswar respectively. The Nabadiganta Educational Trust will set up such colleges in Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda and Baripada, whereas the Blue Wheel National Health Care and Educational Trust will set up a medical college in Nayagarh. In view of the vacancies of doctor posts in the state, the government has posted 3263 doctors through OPSC and on ad-hoc basis between 2010-11 and 2014-15. However, only 1928 have joined so far.
Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said the proposed medical colleges will be operationalised only after the approval of MCI.
