Bhubaneswar: A state-level protest by more than 500 medical and sales representatives was held in Bhubaneswar Monday over job security, service conditions and other employment-related demands.
The protest was organised by the Odisha Sales Representatives Union (OSRU) at the call of the Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Associations of India (FMRAI).
The protesters demanded protection of their rights, statutory service conditions, exemption from fi xed-term employment provisions and the right to work freely in their respective fields.
The OSRU had organised mobilisation programmes across more than 20 districts in August and September against the implementation of the four labour codes and the repeal of the Sales Promotion Employees (Conditions of Service) Act, 1976.
Addressing the gathering, OSRU general secretary Satyabrata Mahapatra stressed the need to safeguard jobs and social security and service conditions.
CITU state president Janardan Pati criticised the Centre’s labour policies, alleging that the four labour codes favoured corporate interests. A delegation later submitted a memorandum to the governor’s office addressed to the Centre, highlighting the representatives’ demands.
