Bhubaneswar, June 4: The Union ministry of human resource development (MHRD) has postponed a meeting to discuss the establishment of the proposed Indian Institute of Management in the state.
The meeting, which was to be held Friday, has been postponed to June 8, employment, technical education and training (ETET) additional secretary PK Das said. ETET secretary AK Tripathy will attend the meeting on the next date, he said.
The meeting will discuss the clarification on four points sought by the Centre before giving permission to establish the institute at Sambalpur.
The Centre had sought clarification from the state on infrastructure facilities available in Sambalpur, iconic business houses operating in the locality, industries located near the location and economic activities in and around Sambalpur. It has also wanted to know whether employment opportunities were there for the family members of staff.
A team led by technical education director, which was tasked by the state government to visit the proposed location in Sambalpur, has submitted its report to the government, sources said.
“The team visited the two proposed sites in the Sambalpur district. Though some of the criteria, such as the presence of big industries for employment of spouses of staff, are not up to the mark, the state would request the Centre to set up the premier institute in the western city,” an official of the department said.
The state has proposed two sites and the Central site selection committee had visited the sites in January.
