Mentally-challenged girl raped in Rayagada

Rayagada: A 15-year-old mentally-challenged girl was raped near Rayagada railway station Tuesday. The incident came to light after a case was registered by GRP following a complaint lodged by the minor. The victim hailed from Visakhapatnam, according to police sources.
Two accused were arrested while another managed to flee the spot, said sources. The accused were identified as M. Ganesh from Rayagada town and Naresh Bagh of Titilagarh. The two were produced in court after medical examination.
Later, the minor was rescued and sent to Sneha nursing home by GRP. The girl’s mother arrived at the nursing home after being informed by the superintendent Swarnalata Mohanty of the hospital. However, the girl fled from the hospital without the knowledge of hospital authorities Sunday morning.
While she was wandering around the town, some miscreants reportedly kidnapped her and fled in an auto-rickshaw. The girl in a bid to escape jumped off the moving auto-rickshaw. Passers-by came to the rescue of the girl and called the police, who arrived at the spot and took the girl to the district headquarters hospital.
Meanwhile, the superintendent of Sneha Nursing Home arrived at the DHH and took the custody of the girl. She was sent to SDJM court by GRP for recording her statement Monday.
The girl will be handed over to her mother Monday evening after the superintendent submits a written declaration with the police.
She will be sent to court when required under her mother’s custody, added the superintendent.
Police launched a manhunt to nab the auto-rickshaw driver and other miscreants who reportedly kidnapped her and drove towards Katalaguda.
