Angul: In a bizarre incident, a mentally retarded man belonging to Rangamatia village under Chendipada police limits in Angul district set his house ablaze Thursday morning. Later, he also attempted suicide by slitting his own throat with a sharp weapon.

According to Chendipada police sources, the incident occurred early in the morning. The man identified as Khokan Behera became outrageous. Behera stays alone and it could be due to his mental instability that he took such a drastic step, the police sources expressed.
Following the incident of fire and on being informed, the local fire brigade team immediately rushed to the spot and doused the flame.
On the other hand, Behera was admitted to Chhendipada community health centre (CHC) for treatment. His condition is stated to be out of danger. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe. Details are awaited as the investigation is underway.
