Bhubaneswar: Odisha is poised to emerge as a major global investment destination, with its abundant natural resources, surplus power, availability of land and water, and progressive industrial policies offering significant opportunities across emerging sectors, Electronics and IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling said Friday.
Addressing the inaugural session of the second edition of TiECon Bhubaneswar 2026, titled ‘Odisha Leap Up Summit ’, Mahaling highlighted the state’s potential to become a major economic engine for eastern India through investments in information technology, semiconductors, metals, downstream industries and advanced manufacturing.
Organised by TiE Bhubaneswar at a city hotel here under the theme Build, Scale & Export, the two-day international entrepreneurship summit aims to strengthen the state’s startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem, promote export-led growth, accelerate innovation and connect local enterprises with national and international markets.
Highlighting the vision of transforming Odisha from mines to microchips, Mahaling said the state’s mineral wealth could be leveraged to develop high-value manufacturing and technology industries, including semiconductor facilities and data centres.
He also stressed the importance of regulatory reforms, citing the Jan Vishwas Bill passed by the state Assembly as an important step towards simplifying compliance procedures and creating a business-friendly environment.
Improved digital connectivity, infrastructure development and stronger collaboration between industry and research institutions would further accelerate the state’s industrial transformation, he added. Mahaling said coordinated growth across industry, tourism, healthcare and information technology would be crucial to achieving state’s long-term development goals in line with the national visions for 2036 and 2047.
The two-day event brings together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and innovators to explore opportunities for investment, business expansion, technological advancement and global collaboration.
