Berhampur: A 68-year-old man from Berhampur created a brass camel miniature, which is less than even an inch in height.
S Anand Rao is a brass sculptor of Thakurani temple sahi village in Berhampur.
Rao claims that his camel model is the shortest in the world. “My earlier 22 brass miniature models were featured in the India Book of Records. My recent creation, the shortest camel, took me three days to complete it,” he said.
When asked about his next aim, Rao said, “I have a long cherished desire to create miniature models on arms and ammunitions, airships and ships that were used at the time when India achieved Independence.”
It is to Anand’s credit that his 34 historical models of different sizes have secured places in the India Book of Records over the last three years.
When asked about his major achievement, he said, “The moment when some of my models made their entry into India China Book of Records, my happiness knew no bounds.”
A 55-inch high Netaji warship, a two-foot high Andaman warship, a nine-inch high and 15-inch wide Raja Gajapati Railway, an 11-inch high and 10-inch wide Khalikote king’s warship, a five-inch high and 10-inch wide Dharakote king Mig-16 rocket are the few of his miniature models that have found place in India China Book of Records.
On many occasions Rao has been honoured and felicitated inside and outside the state. “I still remember the day in 2017 when I was felicitated along with 99 other record holders at a stage programme of India Book of World held in Delhi. That was a proud moment for me as it gave a feeling that I am among the best 100 artists.”
