Bhubaneswar: Declaring that BJP activists were responsible for Bargarh farmer Brundaban Sahoo’s death, Labour Minister Sushant Singh said that an FIR will be filed with the police against the saffron activists Wednesday.
Singh said that he and a large number of farmers will go to the police to register the complaint.
Singh, who had a video to substantiate his claim of involvement of BJP activists, reiterated that the video is proof for how farmers, including Brundaban Sahoo, who committed suicide, were egged on to set their paddy fields on fire and commit suicide.
“I know one of those who shot the video. If it was not provocation, why have they (BJP activists) not made the video public,” the minister told reporters at the Secretariat Tuesday.
Singh came up with the video Monday evening and said that he will file a police complaint with the video as evidence. “I will submit it to the Chief Minister seeking action for instigating farmers to commit suicide,” the BJD Minister had said.
On the other hand BJP MLA Pradip Purohit blasted BJD leaders saying, “The BJD government is trying to wriggle out by giving a political colour to the pest attack and suicides by farmers by blaming the BJP and other parties.”
Meanwhile, the Congress lashed out at both the BJD and BJP on the issue. Congress MLA Prafulla Majhi said the BJD government in the state and the BJP government at the Centre, have both failed miserably to address the problems of farmers and are now focusing their eyes on Bargarh for political mileage.
Majhi, who represents the Talsara Assembly seat in Sundargarh added that thousands of hectares of paddy fields are infested with pests in his district, and the state government is ignoring it.
He, however, rejected the Labour minister’s allegation that farmers were being egged on to commit suicide and said that an FIR should be filed against the minister first for making false statements without any evidence.
