Jeypore/Nabarangpur: Police Wednesday arrested Sanju Chetty (24), a woman of Gaudaguda village in Nabarangpur district, for her involvement in a rape case of a minor girl.
While Sanju was produced in court, her husband Sukindra Chetty, the prime accused, has been on the run, Pramila Bidika, IIC of mahila police station said. Police seized the CCTV footages from a hotel in Nabarangpur, where the 12-year-old victim of Katharagada village under B Singhpur police limits in Koraput district was allegedly raped June 22, to probe further into the incident.
According to the case diary, Sanju first lured the girl into buying her a dress but brought her to Borigumma. Later, she was taken to Nabarangpur. The girl was kept in room no 413 of the hotel during night. Sukindra, who was present at the hotel before hand, raped the girl in the room whole night.
The couple let the girl out when she pleaded with them to release her with a promise to not disclose the incident before any one.
After she escaped from the hotel, the victim narrated the ordeal before her family members. A meeting was held in the village over the incident. The family, however, lodged a complaint with Jeypore mahila police as the matter couldn’t be resolved. PNN
