Rourkela: A minor boy Thursday attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the Koel river here in Sundargarh district.
The victim has been identified as Nilesh Das, a resident of Koel Nagar area in Rourkela. He is a student of Class IX at the MGM English Medium School in Jagda.
On being informed, policemen and fire services personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, the boy was yet to be traced till the last reports came in.
According to a source, the minor boy came riding his bicycle, abandoned it in the middle of the bridge and then before anybody could guess his intentions, jumped off Jhirpani bridge into the water.
The reason behind him taking to the extreme step is yet to be known.
