Lakhanpur: A minor boy was forced to carry the body of his mother to the cremation ground here Wednesday thanks to superstitions prevalent in the remote areas of Jharsuguda district till this day.
The boy is reported to have tied his mother’s body to his bicycle as close relatives refused to participate in the cremation owing to superstition and caste anomalies at Karpabahal village under Sarandamal panchayat of this block.
The deceased was identified as Janaki Sindheria, 50, who had married Munu Sindheria, a native of Lipsapali under Hemgir block of Sundargarh district. The relatives did not approved of Janaki’s marriage with Munu who belonged to a different caste.
Later, the boy buried the body nearb Chharla jungle as he could not cremate her alone.
Janaki was residing at her parents’ village at Karpabahal along with her daughter Binita and minor son Saroj after her husband’s death.
After Janaki’s death Wednesday, their relatives refused to touch her body and join in her cremation as they believed she was from a different gotra and caste after her marriage.
