Niali: Tensions ran high after irked people ransacked Niali Public Clinic here in Cuttack district over a minor’s death allegedly due to a wrong injection being administered Sunday evening.
Reeta Nayak, mother of the deceased, alleged that her seven-year-old daughter Krishna died after the doctor gave her a wrong injection.
As the news spread, this irked the local people who thronged the clinic and ransacked it.
The agitation continued until the arrival of police who took the doctor to the police station.
Krishna, a resident of Darada village under Balipatna police limits, was an ASTHMA patient. Sunday she complained of uneasiness following which her family members rushed her to the clinic.
Dr. Radhakanta Panda, who was attending her, administered her with an injection. Soon, her condition deteriorated further.
Family members immediately shifted her to Niali government hospital. But the doctors there pronounced her received dead.
“Registering a case on the basis of the complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother, police have detained the doctor and launched an investigation,” informed inspector-in-charge Bijay Kumar Mallik.
On the other hand, Dr. Panda said, “The girl had ASTHMA and she was given an injection. But I am not responsible for the girl’s death. People have intentionally blamed me for it. In fact, some people asked me an exorbitant amount after the girl’s death and as I refused to part with any amount, they have falsely implicated me in it.”
