Kendrapara, June 25: A minor girl of Bengali-inhabited Suniti village was kidnapped by two unidentified youths Sunday last, while the girl was on her way to take water from the nearby tubewell, as per an FIR filed by Mahakalapada police.
As per an unconfirmed complaint, the 15-year-old was confined to a room by the two youths. One of them forced her to marry him. When she refused, the two, with the help of a woman, forced her to drink some poison-laced water. When her condition deteriorated, the two youths fled the spot, as per the FIR. The girl was rushed to the district headquarter hospital for treatment but when her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the SCB medical college and hospital.
Police detained four teenagers and are conducting an investigation. A case was registered Wednesday night, and the SDPO of Kendrapara, Purna Chandra Pradhan went to the spot to conduct an inquiry.
It is also suspected that the girl made an attempt to commit suicide after her parents refused to let her marry her lover. SP of Kendrapara, Satish Kumar Gajbhiye, said the allegation made by the victim’s family, of kidnap and confinement, could not be proven till now.
