Phiringia (Kandhamal): In an unfortunate incident, a minor girl died while three others of her family including her parents and siblings were injured after a fire broke out in their house at Gerupada under Phiringia police limits of Kandhamal district late Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Krushna Behera (13). The injured victims have been identified as Krushna’s father Arun Behera, mother Belamati Behera and two three minor siblings.
According to sources, the mishap occurred last night while Balmati Behera, her five-year-old son Rudra and daughters Rambha (18) & Krushna (13) were sleeping inside their house last night.
The fire that erupted in one room engulfed the entire house in a few minutes. Spotting smoke emanating from the house, locals and neighbours rushed to help them.
On being informed, fire tenders also reached the spot and doused the flames. However, the family members sustained burn injuries by then and were immediately admitted to a local hospital.
After preliminary treatment in Phulbani-based district headquarters hospital (DHH), the injured were referred to Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital. While the exact reason behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that an electrical short circuit might have triggered the flames.
