Minor girl who escaped from custody of kidnappers commits suicide in Cuttack

Cuttack: The body of a minor girl, a resident of Kathjori Vihar Mundha Sahi under Markat Nagar police limits in Cuttack, who was kidnapped four days earlier and escaped  from the custody of kidnappers Tuesday, was found hanging inside her house Wednesday morning. Her elder sister, who was also kidnapped, is still missing.

However, local residents and family members held the police responsible for the suicide and kidnapping of her elder sister.

According to Childline coordinator Narayan Shukla, the sisters were minors —  Class VII and Class VI students. After both the girls were kidnapped on the same day, their family members lodged a missing report at Markat Nagar police station.
Instead of taking the incident seriously, the police suggested a love angle could be the reason for the missing.

Meanwhile, the younger sister managed to escape and reached home Tuesday.
Later, she along with her mother went to the police station and filed a complaint.

But the girl was found hanging from the ceiling of her home Wednesday morning.

When contacted, Markat Nagar IIC Debendra Biswal said, “We came to know about the sisters being kidnapped only after the mother and her daughter lodged a complaint Tuesday. We have registered a case on the basis of their complaint and efforts are on to rescue the missing girl.” When asked about the progress of the investigation, he refused to share more information.

On the other hand, the Cuttack Child Line has taken the matter seriously.

Meanwhile, BJP workers Thursday staged a demonstration at the Markat Nagar police station accusing cops of negligence of their duties after meeting the family members at their house.
