The deceased minor girl who belonged to Sorisapadar village had an affair with Upendra Khara of Chorimaliput village in the district. The lover duo had secretly got married recently without the consent of Khara’s family members. Hence, the youth’s parents did not accept the girl as their daughter-in-law at all, a police official said.

The minor girl died by suicide after jumping into a well of Chorimaliput village at around 5.30am, her mother-in-law claimed.

On the other hand, the family of the deceased girl lodged an FIR at Semiliguda police station against the youth. The family members alleged that she was abducted by the youth and murdered.

Acting on the FIR lodged, SDPO of Sunabeda and Nandapur including Semiliguda police station IIC visited the Chorimaliput village.

“The body was recovered from the well with the help of fire fighters and sent for post-mortem. We suspect that the girl died by suicide. However, the exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem report comes in,” Sunabeda SDPO Niranjan Behera stated.

Semiliguda police detained the youth and his father in this connection. Police have registered a case and launched a detailed probe.

Tension hovered Chorimaliput village following the mishap.
