Kendrapara: Stringent laws notwithstanding, crimes against girls and women remain unabated. An incident of rape of a seven-year-old girl by her tuition teacher Friday evening has been reported from Ambapada village under Nikirai police limits in Kendrapara district.
The accused is physically challenged tuition teacher Ganesh Nayak, 25, of Pata Singha village.
According to sources, Nayak ran a tuition center and also went from houses to houses to conduct tuition. He also used to visit the victim’s house for her tuition. As usual, he went to the girl’s house for the tuition Friday evening.
Meanwhile, the power cut occurred in the village due to the prevailing Nor’wester rain. Taking advantage, he tried to rape the girl. Hearing the victim’s scream, neighbours overpowered Nayak and thrashed him black and blue, before handing him over to police.
On the other hand, reports circulated that Nayak was a repeated offender and had been raping the girl. He had also recorded the obscene videos of his sexual intimacy with the minor. The matter came to the fore after he accidentally sent the videos to the girl’s uncle while sending him some documents.
The girl’s uncle then alerted her mother who then lodged a complaint with Nikirai police station. “He has confessed to the crime,” police said, adding an investigation was on.
