Nayagarh: A minor boy reportedly raped a girl inside a temple with his friends making a video of the heinous act, according to a complaint lodged with Saranakula police Monday.
The incident, said to have occurred a month ago, has now taken the village of Pancharida by storm after the video was uploaded to the internet by the accused and his friends.
Hundreds of enraged locals along with the girl’s parents gheraoed the Saranakula police station demanding immediate action against the culprits.
Police swung into action and detained three minor boys for interrogation, according to sources.
Police sources said the victim was a Class IX student at a local school. On the day of the incident, the accused called the girl while she was returning home from school. The boy claimed that the government had deposited money in their bank accounts to buy bicycles and convinced the girl to go with him to Saranakula on the pretext of withdrawing the money and updating their bank passbooks.
On the way, the accused was joined by two of his friends who forcibly took the girl to a nearby temple where the accused raped the girl as the other two made a video of the incident. The boys fled the temple later.
The girl managed to walk back home and narrated her ordeal to her parents. Fearing social stigma, the girl’s parents did not reveal it to anyone. However, to their shock, they came to know that a video of the incident had now gone viral in the village.
As news of the incident spread, irate locals thrashed the accused and handed him over to police. The three accused will be produced in a juvenile justice court, police said. PNN
