Bhabanipatana: The bodies of a young couple who had been missing for five days were found hanging from tree in a forest of Odisha’s Kalahandi district Thursday, with their hands reportedly tied behind their backs and bloodstains visible on their bodies.
The bodies were recovered from Bhandar Dongari under the Kokasara police limits. The deceased were identified as Ajit Kumar Naik of Tendapali village and Priyadarshini Naik of Kendumudipada in Dharmagarh town.
Police reached the spot after some people who had gone into the forest to collect firewood spotted the bodies in the morning. The bodies were later identified by their family members.
According to sources, Ajit and Priyadarshini were in a relationship and had been missing since October 17. Missing-person complaints had subsequently been filed at the Kokasara and Dharmagarh police stations.
However, romantic angle has not been established. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths to determine whether the couple died by suicide or were murdered.
