Sambalpur: The police Friday recovered the body of a six-year-old boy, who had gone missing two days back from Bahalpada area in N Guha Lane under Town police limits, from a drain here.
Police suspected it to be a murder case as the body of Kadir Khan, son of Khajur Khan and Indira Bibi, was found stuffed in a gunny bag at the time of recovery. The police registered a case and sent the body to Burla-based VIMSAR for post-mortem.
On the other hand, locals blocked the road near GM College Square demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
Though additional SP Diptiranjan Roy and Ainthapalli police station IIC Srimant Barik tried to pacify the irate mob, it didn’t yield any result.
The agitators relented after sub-collector Trilochan Majhi promised a compensation of Rs 10,000 to the bereaved family and immediate arrest of the accused.
The family lodged a missing person’s complaint with Town police after Kadir went missing Wednesday.
The incident took place when the lane got crowded after electricity department staffers were disconnecting power supply to households having dues. The Khans found Kadir missing after the electricity staff left the place and reported the matter to the police in the evening.
Locals alleged the police didn’t take the matter seriously after receiving the complaint. The abductors got time and killed the kid due to the inefficiency of the police, they alleged.
The residents also flayed the quantum of assistance offered by the administration to the poor family. When the family is shattered after losing their eldest child, the administration finished its job by offering a paltry sum of Rs 10,000, they said.
Khajur has two daughters – Talmira (4) and Phultuli (2).
Meanwhile, a dog squad and a forensic team have been pressed into service to resolve the case. PNN
