Sambalpur: The body of a youth was found in the power channel of the Burla Hydro Electric Project Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Sourabh Sambit Tripathy (22), a resident of Mahalaxminagar in Bolangir.
He was a budding mountaineer. Sourabh had been reportedly missing from VIMSAR, Burla, since October 22. According to police reports, the deceased had admitted his ailing mother to VIMSAR for treatment of a critical illness.
However, he went missing from the hospital premises Wednesday night under mysterious circumstances. Before disappearing, he reportedly sent a message to his mother expressing his love for her and his father.
“I love you both, father and mother. I am ending my life by jumping into the canal. I am not taking any money with me.
You can check my wallet and my bag,” his message read, creating suspicion that he might have died by suicide.
Following his disappearance, Sourabh’s family lodged a missing persons complaint at the Burla police station. Acting on the complaint and the content of the message, the Burla police checked all the surveillance cameras on the streets.
