Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi might have won the no-confidence motion by its strength in the Parliament but lost the confidence of the people, CPI National Secretary D Raja said here Saturday.

Modi was thoroughly exposed for his failure to fulfill the promises he had made to the people during the last four year’s rule, Raja told the media here.

He said there is growing discontentment and disillusionment among the people against the NDA government at the Centre.

The CPI leader criticised Modi for not responding to any substantial issue raised by the Opposition while replying to the debate on the no-confidence motion in Parliament Friday.

The PM did not refer to the issue of mob lynching in his speech, he said, adding that even though the Supreme Court urged upon Parliament to enact a new law to contain mob lynching, Modi did not utter a word on the issue. He also did not say anything on state of economy even though it is in very bad shape.

The Prime Minister, he said, had promised to create two crore job per annum but did not keep his word. He also avoided speaking on growing NPA and failed to recover loans from willful defaulters like Nirav Modi and others who fled the country.

Raja said Modi did not speak on what the government is going to do in Jammu and Kashmir where the state Assembly is being kept in suspended animation after the government collapsed.

No reference was also made to women reservation policy and security of women and children, he added.

Raja appealed to all secular democratic forces and the Left parties including the CPI-M to come together to resist the onslaught of BJP and RSS combine and defeat BJP in the coming election.

The CPI, he said, would launch a country-wide campaign from August 1 to 14 to apprise the people of the failure of the Modi government during its four years rule.

During the campaign the party workers would go the grassroots level and hold seminars, meetings and rallies to expose the Modi government.

After August 14, the leaders of the party would analyse the situation, identify the party’s strong holds and take a decision on political equation to defeat the BJP.

State specific electoral practices would be taken to keep BJP away from power.

He said in Odisha, the CPI would also launch its campaign and hold discussions with the left parties and other democratic secular forces as the state is in BJP’s target for the coming elections.

On BJD’s walkout from the House during the no-confidence motion, the CPI leader said only BJD could say why it lost the opportunity, adding that party should have participated in the discussion and put forth its views before the Parliament.
