Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Monday said that the south-west monsoon will hit Odisha between June 9 and 11.
Several parts of southern Odisha are likely to witness heavy rainfall from June 8 as a low pressure system is building up over Bay of Bengal.
The local meteorological centre director, HR Biswas, said the south-west monsoon has already made considerable improvement after it reached Kerela last week and has already touched parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. As the present conditions are favourable for the advancement of monsoon, it is likely to hit the state between June 9 and 11, he said.
“Several parts of the state witnessed scattered rainfall during past 24 hours. The low pressure system over Bay of Bengal would trigger heavy rainfall mostly in southern Odisha June 8,” the director said.
Meanwhile, the IMD said there is a possibility of thunderstorm in several parts of the state too. Thunder squall accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places in Jagatsingpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda and Deogarh districts during next 24 hours.
