Bhubaneswar, June 3: In an inconsequential game Mukteswar Cricket Club (MCC) registered a narrow three-wicket victory against Greens Cricket Academy (GCA) in the last league match of the Town Club Junior Cricket League here Wednesday.
Opting to bat first, GCA were bundled out for 110 in 28.1 overs with contributions from Aryan Pradhan (21) and Ashutosh Samantray (20). Kishan Patel and Subham Nayak bowled well.
In reply, man of the match Anurag Biswal (45) batted responsibly to help MCA scramble home in 26 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Anurag was well supported by Asutoshy Agrawal (24). Abinash Ratha and Ashutosh Samantray bowled well to capture two wickets each.

Rutuparna enter semis
Rutuparna Choudhury of Orissa entered the semifinals in the U-14 girls’ singles event of the All India Super Series tennis tournament, beating Sanjana Rayarala of Andhra Pradesh 6-2, 6-1 in Ahmedabad, Wednesday. Rutuparana was always the dominant player and had no problems in disposing of the AP lass.

 

Semifinalists spotted
Cuttack, Sambalpur, Orissa Fire Services and Koraput won their respective quarterfinals to advance into the kabaddi semifinals of the 72nd Police Sports Championships in Sambalpur, Wednesday. Cuttack defeated Commissionerate Police-B 45-13, Sambalpur prevailed over Rourkela IVth Battalion 21-3, Orissa Fire Services defeated Commissionerate Police-A 40-9 and Koraput Ist IRBN got the better of Kalinganagar 46-15.

Selection trial

One hundred seven U-19 players and one hundred eight U-16 cricketers have been selected by Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) to attend the trial-cum-selection camp at OCA Academy, Cuttack starting June 5. “The players have been asked to attend the nets on the basis of their performances at the Inter-District tournaments. They are instructed to report their coach June 5 by 10 AM at OCA Academy,” OCA stated through a press release Tuesday.
Chess tourney
SR Chess Centre and East Coast Railway Institute under the aegis of All Orissa Chess Association will organise the Orissa State U-11 Open and Girls’ Chess Championship at the East Coast Railway Institute, Cuttack, June 5-7. Talented players from the state along with ELO rated international players will participate in the competition.
