Shivling is a symbol of Lord Shiva. There are millions of Shivlings in this world and each has its own special characteristics and centuries old beliefs behind it.
One such Shivling is at Bhuteshwar Mahadev Temple at Maroda village of Gariaband district in Chhattisgarh. Also known as Bhakurra Mahadev, the Shivling is about 18 feet tall and the width of the spherical surface of the Shivling is about 20 feet.
What’s more interesting about the Shivling is that its size increases each passing year. As per locals version, this Shivling was in a small form years back. However, gradually, its height and width kept increasing every year. This continues every year.
This miraculous happening attracts huge number of devotees every year. Thousands of devotees throng the temple and offer prayers in the Shivling. It is believed that the wishes of devotees are fulfilled after praying in this temple.
It is said that hundreds of years ago, during Zamindari tradition, Parbhanga resident Shobhasingh Zamindar had a farming land. Once Sobhasingh went to his farm in the evening, and heard shrieks of bull and lion with a special shape near his agricultural land.
He then informed the villagers and the locals too heard the sound of the animals and they started searching for animals but they didn’t find. Later, people made a Shivling on the spot and started worshipping it.
Since then, it has become a tourist place and with passage of time, a temple was also built near it.
