Cuttack: Dreaded criminal Trilochan Nahak alias Buddhia, who was caught by police during an encounter Thursday, had planned to burgle several vehicle showrooms at Gopalpur on the city outskirts.
Police learnt that Nahak, a resident of Nayagarh district, was camping in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for the last three months to prepare a blueprint for burgling some vehicle showrooms.
A special team of the Commissionerate police had raided a hideout of Nahak in Barang area a few days ago. However, he managed give the security personnel a sleep, sources said.
However, a police team had spotted Nahak near Gopalpur Thursday night. “Nahak had opened fire at police and tried to flee the spot. However, he was injured during retaliation,” said a senior police officer.
It is learnt that Nahak had hurled a bomb in Sarankul area of Nayagarh in 1993. He had targeted several contractors and businessmen in Nayagarh. “The dreaded criminal had hurled six bombs at Sarankul police station a few years ago to create panic among the businessmen. He had snatched Rs 9.5 lakh from a trader at Daspalla in Naaygarh at gun-point a couple of months ago,” said the official.
Police claimed that Nahak had killed a contractor in Adityapur area of Jharkhand in July 2011. “Nahak has expertise in bomb making. He was acting as a contract killer in Jharkhand. Even, he is in the wanted list of Jharkhand police,” said a source in the commissionerate police.
Deputy commissioner of police Akhilesvar Singh said they are collecting details regarding the criminal activities of Nahak. “Our preliminary investigation has confirmed that Nahak was involved in a number of crimes in Nayagarh, Puri, Khurda and Cuttack districts. Police had registered altogether 32 cases against him,” Singh added.
