Nabarangpur: The Umerkote police arrested the accused from Andhra Pradesh Wednesday night in the case of suicide of a minor girl after an intimate video featuring her went viral. The man had shot the video of his intimate moments with the girl and then posted it on social media, leading to her suicide.
The accused was Jagannath Gouda from a village under Jharigaon block in this district. “He took shelter in Andhra Pradesh. Acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the sport and arrested him”, said Umerkote SDPO Hemant Kumar Padhi.
Gouda was in a relationship with the girl for the last few years. He had sex with the girl many times and recorded their intimate moments with a mobile phone.
When the girl’s parents came to know about the relationship, they objected to it and arranged her marriage with another youth. Gouda insisted on marrying her. When he found this was not possible, he forwarded the videos to the prospective bridegroom. The clip gradually went viral. Since then, the girl and her family members were under stress.
The girl then decided to end her life. On the pretext of going to fetch firewood, she went to the forest near the village and hanged herself to death under a tree. “We have registered a case. The accused has been arrested and he will be forwarded to court after his medical examination,” the SDPO said.
