New Delhi: Several Union ministers, bureaucrats and Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday assured Centre’s assistance for the rehabilitation of victims affected by a major fire at Sum Hospital in Bhubaneswar which claimed at least 20 lives Monday evening.
“I have spoken to health minister J P Nadda, minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan to extend help for the victims. I’ve also spoken to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and assured him of all possible help from the Centre,” Modi said Tuesday.
President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi have also expressed their condolences over the incident.
Nadda assured that AIIMS-Bhubaneswar would provide treatment to the victims affected by the fire. He said, “I have spoken to director, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar to provide necessary support and help the patients in the best possible manner.”
The health ministry officials are in constant touch with their state counterparts to extend necessary support from the Centre, added Nadda, who has decided to visit Bhubaneswar Wednesday to take stock of the situation.
Railway minister Suresh Prabhu said, “All our hospitals, doctors, officers and staff are ready to help persons affected by the tragedy in Bhubaneswar, Monday.” Notably, the railways also runs hospitals for their employees in the railway divisions in the states.
Minister of state for public grievances and PMO Jitendra Singh said, “The incident was unfortunate. Being a clinician, I can feel the pain of a patient losing his life in this manner.”
Briefing the media here, Union tribal affairs minister and Sundargarh MP Jual Oram said the tragedy occurred due to the failure of the state government machinery and hospital authorities in discharging their responsibilities.
