Kaliapani: Construction of a road to the hill-top village of Nagada will begin by December, rural development secretary Madhusudhan Padhi said after visiting the malnutrition-hit village along with district collector Ranjan Kumar Das Saturday evening.
The village made headlines one-and-a-half months back due to a spate of malnutrition deaths. The road project which was announced soon after was stuck over environment clearance, officials said.
Padhi and Das took stock of the problems being faced by the Juang tribals living in Tala Nagada, Upara Nagada, Majhi Nagada and Naliabada villages.
The officials interacted with the tribals to know of their problems in health, education, drinking water and road connectivity sectors.
Padhi came to know that the solar panels provided by OREDA have been lying defunct. Expressing unhappiness, he directed the OREDA officials to immediately make it functional.
Winding up his visit to Nagada, Padhi held a review meeting with officials at a Tata Steel guesthouse in the afternoon. At the meeting, he directed the officials to start roadwork by December after holding consultations with the forest department. PNN
