NAM allotted Rs 6.29cr budget

Bhubaneswar, June 13: The ambitious National Ayush Mission (NAM) is all set to host a lineup of activities on International Yoga Day June 21. NAM has received about Rs 6.29 crore for various activities to be undertaken under the mission in the 2015-16 fiscal.
The primary objective of NAM is to provide cost-effective Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy) service through upgrading Ayush hospitals and dispensaries and co-location of Ayush facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and district headquarter hospitals. It also aims at upgrading Ayush pharmacies and laboratories besides boosting education and other related fields.
According to health department sources, NAM will function as per the conventional ongoing method of healthcare facilities to boost the status of traditional Indian medicine system. A special directorate has also been created to monitor ground-level activities under NAM.
Budget for the functioning of NAM was set at Rs 6.29 crore in which Rs 3.54 crore has been given for various Ayush services, Rs 1.38 crore for educational institutions, Rs 47 lakh for quality control of drugs, Rs 63 lakh for various awareness activities and Rs 25 lakh for administrative costs. Both the Centre and state have a budget share of 75 and 25 per cent respectively.
NAM will seek help from the Orissa State Medical Corporation (OSMC) for procurement of essential ayurvedic, homoeopathic and unani drugs.
Ayurvedic and unani drugs will be procured for 718 Ayush clinics at PHC and CHC level, 487 dispensaries and all five ayurvedic hospitals in Bhubaneswar, Paikmal, Puri, Bolangir and Ankushpur. A similar trend will be followed for 582 homoeopathic clinics, 300 dispensaries and four hospitals in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur.
NAM will also undertake public health outreach programmes in Khurda district in the initial phase. The outreach activities will be done under the urban health delivery system through CHCs and PHCs. A new programme called Behaviour Change Communication will be undertaken in Khurda and Ganjam districts on a pilot basis.
Moreover, Yoga Wellness Centres will be set up in Puri, Ganjam, Bolangir, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and a few major parks of the capital city including Buddha Park, Kalinga Stadium, Madhusudan Park, Jayadev Vatika and Biju Patnaik Park.
Awareness activities will also be undertaken under NAM including Ayush Kantha in around 150 different locations across the state.
