Nation’s cultural legacy celebrated

BHUBANESWAR: Students and staff members of Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School (BJEM) School celebrated its 46th foundation day titled Inception-2019 here Tuesday. A culture themed exhibition featuring 95 projects was also conducted on the occasion.

Eminent writer, motivational speaker and counselor Haraprasanna Das lighted the ceremonial candle and enlightened the students with his inspiring speech. He advised students not to waste time, talent and energy. “Love for yourself and your work can help you achieve success,” he said.

Principal Sandhya Jena said, “The foundation day gives the entire school family a chance to reflect not only the beginning of the school and its founders, but on the significant developments since its inception as well. Odisha, like the whole of India, has a rich cultural tradition. The purpose of organising this exhibition is to make the young generation realise the rich cultural legacy of the state and country.”

Students exhibited various facets of the state’s rich heritage like festivals (Rath yatra, Runkuna rath yatra, Pana Sankranti, Raban podi and Raja). Tribal dances (Sambalpuri, Chaau), mythological stories such as Mahabharata Ramayana, dishes such as Pitha, dahi bada were brilliantly showcased at the exhibition. This apart, several other aspects of the country such as specialties of the different states was also showcased. More than 90 stalls were put up on the school premises on the occasion.

Apart from this, more than 200 students participated in a rally wearing colourful costumes. Theme of rally was ‘My culture and heritage’. They also exhibited stories through a play on the occasion. Principal Jena felicitated the best costumes and stalls.

Ramroop Jagunauth, eminent administrator from Mauritius with Odia roots, appealed to the students to stay deeply rooted to their culture and heritage in order to establish their identity in the society. School chairman Raghunath Mishra reminded the gathering of the 45 eventful years of school’s history and it’s serene environment and state-of-the-art facilities.
